Rooted in stitching and anchored by dyeing, my practice centers thinking through making and prioritizes improvisational techniques. Sewn textile-collage-tapestry-quilts manifest the gratitude felt for cloth’s role in our lives. Recycling discarded and otherwise trashed textiles (from my closet, deadstock lots, gutters, etc) celebrates the legacies contained within fabric. Textiles are not only vessels of safety, but powerful tools for connection and community—everybody has a favorite t-shirt or their grandma was a quilter—and they are quick to let me know (as I am eager to listen). My work reflects a fondness for time, memory, and the emotional resonance of material; I think of each piece as a diary entry in the cosmic journal of my life. I believe in making for the sake of making, and making what will make me happy.
